Mt. Washington

Just a little PA. 6x8 oil on linen. I wanted to leave you with a big studio painting, but didn't get time to take it to Artworks to be photographed.

I'm off to a week long PA painting trip in Sonora in central California on Tuesday to do paintings for a September show at the Vault gallery in the same area. I'll post some replies until tonight, but this will be the last painting for a bit. I'm looking forward to painting with some of the locals and excited about getting to visit my old teacher and hero Ray Roberts. Wish I had a lap top to feed my blog obsession, but maybe a break is good.

How long are you going to be gone? I'm envious, wish I could do a nice long painting trip. I've got to leave my painting kit at home during my trip to Europe next month.

Your painting looks good, nice greens. I look forward to seeing all your new stuff when you get back.

i love this one for it's hand sewn quality - just awesome in all regards - textural proportions that divide and converge in an organic (not orgasmic or spazmodic) form born to appeal - i want this one and so does my wife - BADLY!

I'd totally accompany you, we haven't painted together in a while. But I have stuff scheduled for this weekend. And my gallery here in San Diego requested large studio paintings of local landscapes... I've only got a few weeks left to work on my exhibition.

I can imagine you'll get a ton of work done. Have fun!

Yowza! Haven't seen this bright of colors on your blog in quite some time!

Reminds me of my trip over to your part of the world in April -

In Minnesota we have generally this particular pallete of greens and browns , and when I come to California a whole new pallete is awakened.

I think this expression of colors from a native is interesting and captures the exciting things people just arriving there would notice, if they are into that kind of thing. I know I am. I irritate the shit out of my cousin when I go there and constantly make observations about your vegetation and landscapes.

There is an amazing amount of stuff going on in that very small space. You have truly made each stroke count.

Now that's one fun & colorful work of art! I could be happy living in the universe depicted in that painting...

Have a great time on your trip!

Neil,

Senora is doing ok as a tourist town( more or less,) but the other towns around it are hurting. Real backwater Meth world. What Tuolumne county needs is bullfighting, the economy is dead in the town I stayed in. (Tuolumne) They have a lot of Sheep there maybe they could have sheep fighting with hillbilly midgets? Or little girls?

I have a Canadian friend who grew up on a livestock farm who told me they had a ram who took on the bull and got the better of him. So: corrida con oveja...There could be something in it.
By the way,
American torero, Dennis Borba, organised 'bloodless' corridas in California a few years ago. He had the very talented French matador Lionel Rouff - aka Morenito de Nimes - out there with him. Morenito has no big career on the Franco/Spanish circuit, which is a shame because he has a great improvisatory spirit that the unreformed Corrida badly needs.
