Camper
Here is a camper briefly stopping at the corner of Victory and Olive in Burbank. It had a seventies feel to it so I kind of painted it with that same feel. I'm on the fence with the low contrast for the light effect and wonder it I should make it tighter with more darks...

I'm a 'push the contrast guy' for this picture because of the low bright sun you have. Just wish I could 'see' pictures like this and have the confidence to render them.
A bit darker might be okay, but I could live with it as is, no problem.
I'm with Mick though. I'd be extremely happy to be able to see it and then pull it off so well with paint.
I love the lighting on this one--I think it looks fina as it is, but I ain't the guy who painted it.
Gorgeous backlight and I really love the white parking lot lines leading in and anchoring the piece.
I had one of these 20+ years ago. This time of day with the sun hitting broadside really makes them heat up inside and I don't quite feel it yet--you could hear the sound of the sheet metal expanding on the sunny side kind of like pushing on the side of one of those old tin lunchboxes. If that gives you any useful information...
Love the Kanevsky stuff too.
Just one man's opinion, but I think the low contrast really suits the image and subject matter and immediately evoked a feeling of 60's/70's era work. Your instinct is impressive as usual!

Ah, looks different on different monitors--monitor at home set for lower contrast for long hours--work one isn't. More separation between RV and background visible at work.
Recently I have ordered your sparrow book and I really dig your work. In this one the whole pictural solution is so unexpected and unusual.
I like the low contrast. It reminds me of what happens when the sun flares a camera lens (washes out), which cinematographers started doing on purpose in the 70's. So, in a way, the mood fits the decade you established.

Sorry for being a dissenter but I'm just not seeing it, yet. Perhaps it would work better (for me) if the angle was a little more kitty corner, then you could pull harder on the shadows across the pavement and model the front and side of the van. I get that this is low contrast and back lit so maybe what it needs is a little more reflecting highlight off the pavement underneath the van between and around the tires to balance the light blowout on the top of the camper. My two cent (Canadian, so actually only 1.7 cents.)
Ok I'm also sucker for a square vehicle, but this awesome. My favorite is the strokes of halation as the sun peeks over the top. :)

BTW, a dosage of approx. 5 mg of melatonin supposedly will induce synaesthesia (according to neurologist V.S. Ramachandran, MD, Ph.D. at UCSD and Scripps). You have fun now...
