If that top one is the old cafe on Route 78 near Ocatillo Airport I've sat in the shade under that overhang!
I was on the back of a Harley Davidson in July 2006 (just before that major heatwave) and we were off to see the Salton Sea proper and the fault line. However the temperature hit 115 degrees and my body said enough. So we sheltered there while I got tanked up on water, cooled down and then turned round and went back to Julian.
I can't believe how few people commented on the Salton Sea painting. A great rendition of decaying timber and stucco--one of the world's ugliest types of ruins but a beautiful painting. Deceptively simple with complex compositional elements: reciprocal triangles, vibrating vertical pairs...
no doubt a lot of this style structure were build all around the area. As far as the painting not getting much attention. That would make it just like it's namesake. 98% knife work by the way.

This is off the 111 near Bombay Beach
no doubt a lot of this style structure were build all around the area. As far as the painting not getting much attention. That would make it just like it's namesake.
